Life at Wood Top Farm in the early 1900s
I've just added a page to the history section containing a recording made in 1968 of a conversation between Roger Davy and his father Walter Davy, in which Walter recalls visiting Wood Top Farm in the early 1900s and life in the village at that time. The audio can be listened to in MP3 format and gives an invaluable insight into a bygone age. Many thanks to Roger Davy for providing a CD of the recording.

A fascinating account indeed Roger, well done for having the foresight to tape-record your Dad’s early memories of life in Sutton in the early 1900s
Catching fish in the Clough beck, meeting Mr John Hartley, using pig hair from the slaughtered beast for pointing & plastering purposes……..and my favourite, christening a field “three dowark!” (three days work field)
It had me wondering whether I have any old tape-recordings of my parents / grandparents talking about t’ olden days. But all I can hear is the sound of the stable door slamming shut as I realise I haven’t and never will have, cos they aint here no more!
